Calais High School is a relatively small high school in the rural setting of Calais (pronounced "CAL-us"), Maine. Sitting upon Blue Devil Hill, it neighbors Washington County Community College and shares its building with St. Croix Regional Technical Center. Calais' rural setting draws students from many small towns including Baring, Robbinston, Crawford, Alexander, Pleasant Point, Indian Township, Perry, and Princeton.

Calais High School is well-known for its outstanding academic and athletic achievements. In the last year alone, the boys’ basketball team went undefeatedgym their whole season to win the Class C State Championship, while at the same, the Academic Decathlon team emerged as the highest scoring school in the State competition of all schools in Eastern Maine. Besides these noteworthy accomplishments, CHS is known for its abundant school spirit. Just attend a regular softball game, or the annual Winter Carnival week to see how spirited CHS students are. (The cheerleading squad placed second in Eastern Maine.)

With an excellent faculty of teachers and staff, the school is very close-knit. Extra-curricular activities are usually headed by the teachers and staff, and there are many for students to choose from.

classroomFrom wrestling, to drama club, the majority of CHS students are involved in one activity or another, but their activities don’t end there. Students are service-oriented, and can be found participating in many charity projects around the local area. Every year, the Student Council provides stockings filled with presents for children in the Transition Home during the holiday season. National Honor Society members are always busy running varies drives for charity organizations, or can be found on a given day making birthday cards for Nursing Home residents.

In the last few years, the school has been renovated, giving it a beautiful interior that matches the caliber of the students who walk within it. Thus, the motto at the entrance of the school, “Through these halls walk the finest people in the world. . . our students and staff.” is very fitting. Every morning as students walk in, the halls of Calais High School resume being a center of activity, where students have the best scholastic opportunities at hand.

2. Gymnasium: Where the community comes to watch exciting basketball games, proms, and graduation events. Also the classroom for Physical Education classes.

3. Classroom: With a 300 student population, classes are just the right size, allowing teachers to establish close connections with their students.
