Can the Silverados be stopped? That is the question circulating the minds of St. Croix Valley citizens as they heard the news that the Silverados defeated the Mount Desert Island Trojans on October 1, 2007 by more than 40 points.

Silverados Light Up Eagles
Eagles Shut-Out for 46 Minutes!

after

Although the lights were shining brightly at Husson College on Saturday, September 22 in the first ever game played under the lights by the St. Croix Silverados, it was the combined Calais-Woodland team who truly shone. With the Silverado cheerleaders pumping up the crowd, the Silverados knew they could waste no time in front of an enthusiastic crowd and quickly scored in the first quarter, making a mark on the scoreboard of 8-0. With 7:45 remaining in the second quarter, the Silverados doubled their score to 16, with a touchdown and successful two-point conversion. They would go on to score 16 more points, making the halftime score 32-0 as the EA Eagles went into the locker room to try to create a plan to defeat Coach Pratt and the Silverados.

Shortly after the second half began, it was evident that the EA Eagles were no match for the well-prepared, dynamic team from Washington County. From defenseaction to offense, the Silverados were exemplary and showed their versatility as many players remained on the field to assume both defensive and offensive positions. They would go on to score an additional 14 points, with freshman Spencer McCormick scoring an amazing 25-yard touchdown to continue the shut-out. However, the Eagles were able to get their name on the scoreboard by scoring one touchdown with 1:05 left in the game. As the Silverados and Eagles shook hands, the many Calais and Woodland fans who made the trip to Bangor were pleased to look at the scoreboard and see another victory for an amazing team.

Fans of the Calais Blue Devils quickly recognized the announcing voice as that of the famous “voice of the blue devils” Mr. Robb, while the Silverados Booster Club took care of the ticket booth and concession stand. 50-50 tickets were sold to benefit the club, which in addition to raising money for day-to-day activities, is also continuing to raise funds for the new Washington County athletic stadium. Darcy Newman was the lucky winner of $145 in the 50-50 draw.

The next St. Croix Silverados football game will be played at Mount Desert Island at 5 PM on Monday, October 1. Come show your St. Croix spirit as the Silverados attempt to send the Trojans back to Greece.
