Students had the opportunity to practice real-world observation skills, watching developmental milestones in action and reflecting on what they observed using the Maine Early Learning and Development Standards. It was a powerful way to connect classroom learning to real life.
We’re looking forward to welcoming Jaiden and her daughter back in a few months so students can observe and compare growth across the developmental domains and see firsthand how children grow and change over time. Experiences like this remind us why hands-on, authentic learning matters!

The St. Croix Regional Technical Center Criminal Justice Program has been busy. We're diving deep into the exciting opportunities and agencies that our program prepares students for. Not only do we invite guest speakers to provide firsthand insights, but we also cover specialized skills and duties essential for officers and agents. Additionally, we've toured local and federal agency facilities to explore the roles and daily experiences of law enforcement.

Last year, our Early Childhood Education program teamed up with Girl Scout Troop 2253 and received a $500 donation to purchase gifts for more than 80 local elders, including residents in assisted-living and nursing-home settings. What started as a service project quickly became something much more.
Our students learned the true impact of giving.
Our elders felt seen, valued, and celebrated.
And our program discovered a new tradition worth continuing.
✨ This year, we’re back for Year Two, and we grew even bigger. ✨
We were thrilled to partner with Mrs. Posick and the Criminal Justice program, along with other SCRTC programs, to expand our holiday outreach and increase our impact across the community. This collaboration brought together new perspectives, shared leadership, and a collective commitment to service.
With a $500 donation, students worked together to:
✔️ Create and distribute a needs-based survey for each residence
✔️ Budget responsibly and problem-solve while shopping
✔️ Purchase bags, tissue paper, and meaningful gifts for each bag
✔️ Ensure items were safe and appropriate for residents’ health needs
✔️ Collaborate across programs to assemble and deliver the gift bags
To make it even more special, our Culinary program created homemade treats to include with deliveries and during visits, ECE and Criminal Justice students decorated cookies alongside residents, which was so much fun! (photos in part 2)
📍 Community Locations Served:
Wellmore Point
Union Village
Remeliah House Assisted Living
Calais Alternative Care
New Horizons
North Street Bridge Home
Robbinston Bridge Home
This project was more than gifts; it was about connection, dignity, teamwork, and learning through service. We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful to our community partners who made this possible.
💫 Here’s to continuing this tradition and strengthening our community together. 💫 This post will be shared a couple of times, as there are more photos from other students who participated in this project as well.

Our SkillsUSA chapter recently held a Pie in the Face fundraiser. Jars were placed in each instructor’s room, and students and staff voted with their dollars for who they wanted to see pied! 😆
Drumroll please… the winner was our Computer Technology instructor, Mr. Finn! 🎤💻
He was such a great sport and took the pie like a champ! 😄
Huge shout-out to our Vice President Alexis Bowen for delivering the winning pie with style! 👏
Thank you to everyone who donated and cheered us on. Your support helps our students attend SkillsUSA competitions and leadership events! ❤️
Enjoy the photos! 📸👇
A big thank you for welcoming our Early Childhood Program back again this year. My students absolutely loved volunteering and experiencing the magic, joy, and community spirit that this event brings to so many families.
From all these photos, you can clearly see the smiles, excitement, and pure holiday joy that filled the room! ❤️🎄
We are so grateful to be a small part of such a meaningful community tradition.
Thank you, Calais Elementary, for another unforgettable year!
