YOUTH PREPAREDNESS COUNCIL SEEKING APPLICATIONS FROM MAINE STUDENTS
The Youth Preparedness Council (YPC) was created in 2012 to bring together youth leaders interested in supporting disaster preparedness and making a difference in their communities by completing disaster preparedness projects nationally and locally.
The council supports FEMA’s commitment to involve America’s youth in preparedness-related activities. It also provides young people an opportunity to present their perspectives, feedback, and opinions to FEMA staff. Members regularly meet with staff and attend the annual Youth Preparedness Council virtual summit.
FEMA is now accepting applications for the Youth Preparedness Council. This program is a phenomenal opportunity for young leaders in grades eight through 11th. Applications are due no later than March 4th. The link below provides all needed information, including an informational Zoom webinar to learn more. It has been a very long time since Maine had a representative. Can a Calais Middle or High School student help change that?

On Saturday 11/18/23, our CMHS Art teacher, Bobbi Tardif, was invited and attended the Maine Teacher of the Year Gala in Portland, Maine. The Gala celebration was to honor the 2023 Maine County Teachers of the Year, 2024 Maine Teacher of the Year, and a decade of County Teachers of the Year. She was surrounded by everyday teachers doing extraordinary things! Mrs. Tardif adds, "It was truly an honor to be counted among them! I was reminded that our teachers at Calais Middle High School are giving, dedicated, and exceptional people. In the spirit of gratitude and thanksgiving--I appreciate...all of them!"
Mrs. Tardif was the 2019 Piscataquis County Teacher of the Year, and we are honored to have her on staff at the Calais School Department!

As we progress into the cooler weather, we would like to remind our communities that students will be wearing more hats and hooded garments, which can obscure their view. The Calais School Department wants everyone to put our students' safety first.
We offer this friendly reminder for morning pick up and afternoon dismissal times: Please be sure to watch out for walking students, students waiting at bus stops, and buses loading or disembarking students. Always stop for a bus will red lights because students are either loading or disembarking from that bus.
The Calais School Department thanks you for helping to make the safety of our students a top priority!
