👏 Big shout-out to Mr. Finn’s students in our Computer Electronics program for their incredible work this week!

Over the course of three full class days, this team installed brand-new technology in the CMHS conference room, including a Logitech camera and a Virtual Machine. Their project required problem-solving, collaboration, and technical precision skills that go far beyond the classroom.

💻🔧 At the same time, our students were also busy at Shead High School, where they successfully installed new digital signage. This upgrade gives Shead students quick access to important school events and information. This is another great example of how CTE skills directly benefit our sending schools and communities.

By taking on projects like these, our students are not only improving the school environment for CMHS and Shead, but also gaining hands-on career experience in technology installation, troubleshooting, and teamwork. These opportunities prepare them for the future, whether in higher education, the workforce, or industry certifications by giving them the confidence and real-world skills to succeed.

We are so proud of the professionalism, dedication, and innovation they demonstrated from start to finish!

One of our Early Childhood advisory team members, who also runs KidzFirst Family Child Care, reached out with a fun idea for collaboration. She challenged our high school students to design a hands-on activity that would be age-appropriate for children across multiple ages.

Angela and Kelly gathered toilet paper rolls from families, while the children at KidzFirst worked on creating binoculars. Meanwhile, our Early Childhood Education (ECE) students designed a complementary outdoor animal matching activity using a list of animals provided by the center.

The high school students created the lesson on Canva, laminated the materials, and prepped everything needed before delivering it to KidzFirst. They were even able to stop in, see the children, and join in the play. The center later shared photos of the children enjoying the activity a wonderful full-circle moment.

Our ECE students intentionally incorporated strategies that support the Maine Early Learning and Development Standards (MELDS), including:

Cognitive Development: Approaches to Learning – Children used observation, problem-solving, and persistence as they explored and matched animals in different ways.

Language and Literacy Development – Older children practiced early reading skills by matching the animal image to its printed name.

Cognitive Development: Creative Arts & Expression – Making binoculars from recycled materials encouraged creativity and imaginative play.

Social & Emotional Development – Adding children’s pictures to the cards helped teachers provide individualized feedback and scaffold learning, supporting self-confidence and peer interaction.

Physical Development & Health – The activity was outdoors, allowing children to engage in movement and active play while using fine motor skills to handle materials.

This collaboration not only supported authentic, hands-on learning for our ECE students, but it also provided a rich, developmentally appropriate experience for the children at KidzFirst. A true example of community partnership in action thank you for always supporting our program, Angela!

📚✨ Celebrating Our Early Childhood Students! ✨📚

Last school year, Mrs. Remington applied through the Maine DOE to take part in the Emergent Literacy Facilitator Training. After completing the training alongside another Early Childhood instructor, Darlene Bruns from Westbrook Regional Technical Center in Augusta, she received the go-ahead to deliver her very first Maine DOE training right here at SCRTC!

This week, our first-year and second-year Early Childhood students successfully completed Module One and earned 6.5 hours of professional learning. Even better, this training was offered to our students completely free of charge through the Department of Education, giving them early access to high-quality professional development that many working educators take part in.

Through this experience, students explored the foundations of emergent literacy, gained strategies they can use in future classrooms, and added a valuable credential to their growing portfolios. 🎉

👏 Congratulations to our students for your hard work and commitment to becoming strong future educators. We are so proud of you! Pictured from the second year program is Addison Ellsmore, Alexis Bowen, Cheyenne Kinney, and missing from the photo is Jenna Cline. Pictured in the second photo first year program is Bell Bishop, Yvonne Cook. Lainey Ellsmore, and missing from the photo is Star Huckins.

🌟 Student Spotlight! 🌟

Pictured above are Addison Ellsmore (4-year CTE student), Cheyenne Kinney (4-year CTE student), and Alexis Bowen (5-year CTE student) — three outstanding young women who have dedicated the past three years to our Early Childhood program. During that time, they’ve not only gained valuable hands-on experience in our CTE program, but they’ve also worked hard to earn early college credits through multiple colleges. 👩‍🏫📚✨

We are beyond proud to share that their dedication has now been recognized by the University of Maine at Farmington! 🎉 These young women have been admitted to UMF through the Early College program. That means they get to skip the essay and recommendation process because their hard work in the classroom has already earned them a place in the Fall 2026 class. 💙

Please join us in congratulating Addison, Cheyenne, and Alexis on this amazing accomplishment! We couldn’t be prouder of all you’ve achieved. 💐👏❤️
